So another one bites the dust – Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have called it quits. And of course, the media has been quick to rubbish the irreconcilable differences claimed in the papers filed by Jolie. They have instead created their own conspiracy theories about affairs, parenting styles and much more. That the media is having a field day with one is a given. So we won’t go there.

We will instead talk about the fashion of togetherness, of marriage, of happily ever after. Is marriage going out of style? Is happily ever after going out of style? Are we so quick to say no, thank you, that we have forgotten the sheer joy of making room for another individual with whom we are to pretty much ‘co partner’ in everything starting from home to parenting and that big F word – finances!

Our disclaimer before we get into this debate: no one can know the sheer extent of the discontent and its repercussions that may have driven the couple towards singledom.

While on one hand, it seems like a great thing to be able to say no and move on if you are not happy with your lot in life, the other side of this trend is a large question mark. Are we unwilling to repair the broken, by simply going window shopping again? The debate will go on…
