Is it easy to love without expecting love in return?

That seems to be the core question posed by the trailer of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. As Karan Johar’s next directorial venture, the movie seems to have all the necessary drama within an urban context to touch heartstrings and create a stir – punctuated by rock infused, dhol tapping music. Yet, what exactly are we stirring up?

At first glance, the movie seems to promise a lavish setting of broken hearts and questioning emotions, racing ahead with the shattering of popular belief systems like ‘mohabbat junoon hai, dosti sukoon hai,’ (love has passion, friendship has peace). This directly counters the heart broken hero’s state of mind when he meets the mild mannered temptress who says, “I want to be someone’s desire, not obligation.” Touche!

While we see plenty of Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Anushka Sharma in the trailer and the songs, we barely see Fawad Drool Worthy Khan. Someone please tell us he will have a surprisingly long screen time!

Finally, the lack of the big fat Indian wedding scenario with song upon song dedicated to bling infused clothing and opulent sets seems to be missing – usually a healthy distraction in most the standard Dharma Production film. So now, we can actually concentrate on matters of the heart. Karan Johar seems to pulling out the big guns and baring his story telling with this one.

Ae dil, will this be mushkil? Time and the release date will tell. Watch this space for more!
